My WordPress Credits Journey: Onboarding and My First Website

This is my first update as a WordPress Credits student, and I want to start by sharing what the onboarding stage has looked like for me.

Before joining the program, I didn’t know how big the WordPress world really is. There’s a lot to learn, many tools to explore, and a large community of people who share their knowledge and work together. Discovering that has been one of the best parts of these first weeks.

What I’ve completed so far

  • Open source basics and WordPress
  • How decisions are made in the WordPress project
  • Community meeting etiquette
  • Writing in the WordPress voice
  • Basic principles of conflict resolution
  • Intermediate WordPress User

I’ve been guiding myself mostly with the multimedia content in each course. The videos and examples made it much easier to understand topics that were completely new to me.

Building this website

This week, I set up this site on WordPress.com. I gave it a title and tagline, removed the sample content, updated the footer, wrote my About page, and created a WordPress Credits category to organize my weekly updates. It was my first time working inside a WordPress dashboard, so I took it step by step.

What’s next

I’m continuing with the WordPress Credits course and getting ready for the project stage, where I’ll choose a contribution team and start making my first contributions.

Thanks for reading, and see you next time!
